Professorship
Mar 07, 2011 - 4:00 PM - by nmrlearner
nmrlearner's Avatar Professorship

We are looking to recruit a ‚young’ talent (age 35-40) for a professorship in chemistry / physical chemistry at the University of Strasbourg, one of the best French research institutions in sciences. The candidate should be an expert in solution NMR spectroscopy and in the physical chemistry of molecular systems in solution. She/He should develop independent research on complex molecular systems. Ideally static or dynamic mixtures should be investigated using NMR spectroscopy under consideration of the thermodynamics and kinetics of such systems.

Contact (if possible before end of February 2011):

PhD student project/position

nmrlearner's Avatar PhD student project/position

PhD student project/position

A PhD student project/position is available in the area of NMR applied to asymmetric homogeneous catalysis. The project will be jointly supervised in the NMR Department (Dr. Christophe Farès) and in the Department of Homogeneous Catalysis (Prof. Benjamin List) of the MPI for Coal Research in Mülheim an der Ruhr (http://www.kofo.mpg.de/).

The specific goals are to address fundamental questions related to the mechanism of the high stereoselectivity in novel organocatalysts developed at this institute and to discover and develop new strategies towards the characterization of catalytic intermediate and transition states based on advanced NMR methods.

The PhD student will work in collaboration with synthetic chemists in order to optimize compounds which will stabilize intermediate states. She/He will also have full access to a modern NMR laboratory, equipped with seven spectrometers, including a 600-MHz instrument with a cryogenically cooled-probehead.

The position is for a period of three years. We are looking for a talented and motivated individual with a good background in NMR, that wish to invest time and energy to satisfy their curiosity in understanding the fundamental mechanisms behind organocatalysis. A genuine interest in interdisciplinary science will be essential. Education in a relevant discipline such as organic chemistry will be an advantage.

Applications must contain

Genentech Postdoctoral Fellow

nmrlearner's Avatar Genentech Postdoctoral Fellow

Genentech Postdoctoral Fellow: Structural Biology/NMR Spectroscopy

We have an opportunity for a highly talented Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Protein NMR Group in the Structural Biology Department at Genentech. Our research encompasses the structural analysis of proteins of therapeutic interest, with an emphasis on determining their conformations and ligand-binding properties.

Genentech is now applying our expertise in protein expression, assay development, antibody engineering and drug design to pursue some of the most challenging therapeutic targets in the human proteome, including G protein-coupled receptors and ion channels. The successful candidate will focus their postdoctoral research on the NMR structural analysis of human membrane proteins involved in ion transport and the mechanisms of their functional regulation. The interaction of these proteins with potent and selective antibody fragments, peptides and/or small molecule inhibitors will also be examined. Significant progress on the high-level expression and purification of the proposed membrane structural targets has already been achieved. Moreover, you would be working with a highly collaborative group of scientists whose expertise includes protein NMR spectroscopy, soluble and membrane protein crystallography, ion channel electrophysiology and assay development.

The protein NMR facility includes dedicated 800, 600, and 500 MHz spectrometers, Linux workstations, a fully equipped protein expression and purification lab with expertise in membrane protein production, and access to the Central California 900 MHz spectrometer.

solid-state NMR engineer position
Mar 07, 2011 - 4:00 PM - by nmrlearner
nmrlearner's Avatar solid-state NMR engineer position

A one-year solid-state NMR engineer position available

A one-year engineer position is available in the Magnetic Resonance Laboratory (LRM), INAC/SCIB at CEA Grenoble for the technical maintenance of three BRUKER solid-state NMR spectrometers: two AVANCE 400, one of them coupled to a gyrotron, and one DSX 200. The NMR facility is localized at two different sites and will get very soon a complete system to perform solid-state high-resolution NMR coupled to Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP).

Applications fields in high-resolution solid-state NMR at CEA-Grenoble are very broad, ranging from synthetic polymers to biological material, as well as new materials for nanotechnologies. Research at LRM includes methodological developments (pulse sequence design, DNP, NMR/DFT coupling, …) and original instrumentation in order to improve the low intrinsic sensitivity of NMR.

The successful candidate will be in charge of the maintenance and troubleshooting of the spectrometers, contact with suppliers, spectrometer time schedule, supervising external users, and users training. The candidate will be strongly involved in the setup of DNP/NMR experiments, including optimization of sample-preparation protocols for DNP.

The candidate profile includes a PhD thesis in high-resolution solid-state NMR. Previous professional experience in a NMR facility will be particularly considered. Communication and integration skills are highly appreciated.

Further information concerning this position can be obtained from the LRM scientists Sabine Hediger (sabine.hediger@cea.fr, tel +33 4 38 78 68 12) and Gaël De Paepe, DNP project leader (gael.depaepe@cea.fr, tel +33 4 38... [Read More]
