Posting the following job ad was requested by Dr. Wishart lab.

PROTEIN CHEMIST
Dr. Wishart's research group
University of Alberta



Position Type: Full Time - Grant Funded

Salary range: $3544 - $4492 CAD per month
Grade: 9
Hours: 35 per wk
This position has a comprehensive benefits program.

Duties

* Designs and prepares various hamster prion gene constructs (site-directed mutants, deletions) in E. coli; responsible for their expression, purification, stable isotope labeling (for NMR and MS analysis) and refolding
* Implements protein-misfolding cyclic amplification (PMCA) assay
* Undertakes primer, plasmid and peptide design and construction as directed
* Oversees bacterial, oligonucleotide and plasmid stocks; maintains complete records
* Prepares and maintains chemicals, media and stock solutions; operates laboratory equipment in safe and efficient manner
* Reports, unloads or annotates results into laboratory management system
* Interacts with and responds to general protein production needs of affiliated project researchers

Qualifications

* B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in biology, biochemistry (specialization in molecular biology, microbiology or biochemistry)
* Minimum 2 years experience in a research laboratory; previous experience with chemical protein modification or with electron microscopy an asset
* Computer proficiency using MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
* Willingness to travel and train in various laboratories across North America
