Postdoctoral position at St. Jude
Nov 21, 2011 - 8:57 PM - by nmrlearner
nmrlearner's Avatar Postdoctoral position at St. Jude

Dear colleagues,

a postdoctoral position is available immediately in my lab at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, for a candidate motivated to pursue structure/function relationships of highly dynamic protein complexes in the ubiquitin pathway. The project focuses on the recognition of highly flexible proto-oncogenes by their cognate ubiquitin ligases and how dynamic interconversion of multiple bound states relates to function in health and disease. The successful candidate will use NMR spectroscopy, other biophysical and biochemical techniques to dissect the binding mechanism and establish structure/function relationships.

Requirements
This position is an ideal opportunity for either (1) an experienced NMR spectroscopist who would like to complement his or her expertise with other, diverse tools for understanding protein complex function and mechanism, or (2) for an enzymologist/biophysicist interested in structural biology of dynamic protein complexes. The fellow would benefit from both the outstanding environment in the lab and the highly collaborative St. Jude community.

Candidates should have recently earned/expect to earn a Ph.D. in a related field, and should have experience in protein biochemistry, enzymology, biophysics, or NMR spectroscopy.

Supplemental Application Requirements
Mail Postdoc Application: No
Letter of Interest Required: No
Curriculum Vitae Required: Yes
Description of Research Interest Required: Yes

PhD SSNMR
Nov 21, 2011 - 8:57 PM - by nmrlearner
nmrlearner's Avatar PhD SSNMR

We are looking for a young, open-minded, enthusiastic, committed and diligent individual with a background in chemistry, physics or material-sciences (German Diploma/MSc equivalent).
The successful candidate will work on the multi nuclear solid state NMR characterization of immobilized catalysts, metal-clusters, metal-nanoparticles and their interactions with substrates. The immobilized catalysts are made in-house by covalently binding metal-containing catalysts to the surface of nano-structured silica materials with different morphologies (porous or nanoparticles) via organic linkers or obtained by a cooperating group at the CNRS-Toulouse.

The structure of the immobilized catalysts on the support material, its interactions with substrates and the influence of macroscopic parameters such as temperature on its properties are investigated. The catalytic activity of the catalysts is tested by model reactions, in particular hydrogenations.
Previous hands-on experience with solid state NMR or heterogeneous catalysis will be helpful, but is not necessary.

We offer a state-of-the-art research infrastructure including solid-state NMR (600, 500 400 and 300 MHz) spectrometers and a wet-chemistry lab including GC, HPLC, UV/Vis and other techniques. An additional 400MHz DNP-NMR solid state NMR spectrometer will be installed at the end of 2012.

The NMR lab is headed by an academic staff scientist, who provides user support. The group is part of the research group FOR-1583, the research network SFB 598, the LOEWE-research group SOFT-CONTROL and various national and international cooperation projects. The group is located at the Campus Lichtwiese of the Technical University Darmstadt.

Faculty Position in Structural Biology at the University of Auckland, NZ
Nov 20, 2011 - 1:27 AM - by rlkingston
Dear colleagues,

I would like to bring your attention to the following vacancy at the University of Auckland:

Professor/Associate Professor in Structural Biology

The School of Biological Sciences invites applications for a Professor/Associate Professor in Structural Biology. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in either macromolecular crystallography and/or any other approach to molecular structural biology, will have the demonstrated ability to combine this expertise with biophysical, biochemical or cellular techniques to solve contemporary biological problems of both fundamental and applied nature, and will have a strong track record of obtaining research funding in a competitive environment. The successful candidate will actively contribute to teaching and graduate supervision while maintaining their own research portfolio. If appointed at the Professorial level, the successful candidate would also be expected to provide leadership within the strongly collegial Structural Biology Research section, which currently includes seven research groups and around 40 staff and students. Existing facilities available include state-of-the-art X-ray data collection facilities (Rigaku MicroMax-007 HF with mar345dtb detectors) and crystallization robotics, a Tecnai 12 cryo-TEM with CCD camera and a Bruker 600MHz NMR instrument with cryoprobe. A new Tecnai F20, a 200 kV Field Emission Gun TEM equipped with an energy filter, will be installed in 2011. The Australian Synchrotron in Melbourne is readily accessible from Auckland.

The School of Biological Sciences has... [Read More]
