NMR wisdom:Research Groups in the UK

Research Groups in the UK
  • Biological NMR Unit - The University of Birmingham
The Biological NMR Unit was established in 1990 as a joint venture
between The School of Biochemistry and some research groups in the School
of Medicine, notably the Department of Rheumatology and The CRC Institute
    for Cancer Studies.
  • Biomembrane Structure Unit, University of Oxford
Solid State NMR performed on Biological Membranes. Structure determination
    and protein-lipid and protein-ligand interactions
    Edinburgh Biomolecular NMR Unit
Our research focus is on protein structure. The main tool we use is
solution state NMR, but we also employ calorimetry, circular dichroism,
hydrodynamics, molecular modelling, mass spectrometry and fluorescence
spectroscopy to complement the high-resolution structure information.
For example, we are interested in multi-modular proteins such as are
found in the complement system. Many of these are large, extended, flexible
    and glycosylated.
  • Haemworks TMR network
Investigating structure-function relationships in haem proteins using
    NMR and molecular biology techniques
  • James Keeler Group; Department of Chemistry; University of Cambridge
We're based in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge,
and the focus of our research is the development of new methods in Nuclear
    Magentic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.
  • Joint UCL/LICR NMR Laboratory, University College London
Biomolecular NMR Spectroscopy. Our lab is a joint facility of the Department
of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Ludwig Institute for Cancer
Research, and a component of the UCL/Birkbeck College BBSRC-sponsored Centre
    for Structural Biology.
  • MR Centre, University of Nottingham, UK
  • MRC Biomedical NMR Centre The Centre is a multi-user facility for biomedical NMR which was set
up by the MRC in 1980. It is located at the National Institute for Medical
Research (NIMR) and has excellent and well-supported facilities for liquid-state
NMR studies of biological macromolecules. The Centre's facilities include
spectrometers operating at 500 and 600 MHz and have recently been enhanced
by the addition of an 800 MHz instrument.
  • NMR Group, University of Kent, UK
    NMR Group, University of Newcastle
  • NMR Lab, Queen Mary and Westfield College
The ULIRS high field n.m.r. service is intended to provide researchers
in the University with an n.m.r. spectrum on as wide a range of nuclei
as possible. The service is situated in the Department of Chemistry at
Queen Mary and Westfield College (QMW).
  • NMR Service, University of York, UK
  • NMR, University Cambridge, UK
  • Oxford University, Dyson Perrins Laboratory - NMR Spectroscopy Facility
The NMR facility in the Dyson Perrins Laboratory is one of the largest
available to Organic Chemists in the UK. It houses seven FT instruments
with proton operating frequencies ranging between 200 and 500 MHz.
  • Solid-state NMR Group, University of Nottingham
Our research involves the design and implementation of new solid-state
    nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments.
Our current work includes the design of new multi-dimensional NMR correlation
experiments and new ways of exciting normally forbidden multiple-quantum
transitions. Ongoing applications include investigations of polymer blends
    and proton conducting materials.
    Academic staff:
    Dr Helen Geen, Physics
    Dr Jeremy Titman, Chemistry
  • Solid-state NMR, University of Durham Industrial Research Laboratories
  • UK NMR Discussion Group
On these pages will be posted up-and-coming meeting dates, details
of the scientific sessions and registration forms. There is also a useful
page of links to other NMR sites.
