acancy Magnetic Resonance Research Center Nijmegen: Assistant professor in Solid-State NMR Spectroscopy (Tenure Track)

Assistant Professor in solid-state NMR spectroscopy (Tenure Track) (0.8- 1.0 FTE)Radboud University Nijmegen
Faculty of Science
Maximum salary: € 4,978 gross/month
Vacancy number: 62.12.19
Application deadline: 18 April 2019

Responsibilities
Research
As a tenure-track Assistant Professor, you will further strengthen research in the field of solid-state NMR spectroscopy with an emphasis
on soft matter research. We will encourage you to look for opportunities to add new and complementary aspects to the current activities of the Magnetic Resonance Research Center of the Institute of Molecules and Materials (IMM).

Currently, the three main research directions are:
(1) Development of high-resolution, high-sensitivity solid-state NMR methodology
(2) Applications in materials science (energy materials, catalysts, polymers)
(3) Development of hyperpolarised NMR methodology in the liquid state

Education
We encourage you to enthusiastically adopt a leading role in modern and inspiring chemistry education. These courses are part of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes of the Educational Institute for Molecular Sciences, which tie in with the research conducted at the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM).

Work environment

The IMM is an interdisciplinary research institute in chemistry and physics at Radboud University. Its mission is to perform fundamental
research and train the next generation of leaders in science and entrepreneurship to the highest international standards. The IMM
actively explores and promotes interaction with industry. The IMM distinguishes itself from similar institutes by intense collaborations
and interactions between chemists and physicists and experimentalists and theoreticians. The IMM has a strong advanced spectroscopy
infrastructure including state-of-the-art NMR spectrometers; 300, 400, 600 and 850 MHz solid-state NMR spectrometers and 400 – 500 – 600 – 800 MHz liquid-state NMR spectrometers. Dynamic nuclear polarisation (DNP) capabilities are available at 400 MHz / 263 GHz and 600 MHz / 396 GHz. The NMR activities are well-embedded in the national uNMR-NL facility that will be among the first to get access to a 1.2 GHz spectrometer. Moreover, the Magnetic Resonance Research Center has excellent technical staff with great expertise in NMR probe development.

You will have a scientifically independent position embedded in the Magnetic Resonance Research Center headed by Prof. A.P.M. Kentgens. Your
research will add valuable novel aspects to the research programmes of the Magnetic Resonance Research Center and IMM.

We offer an open and dynamic research environment in which everybody is encouraged to bring their research to full fruition. Radboud University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, and as such encourages applications from women and minorities. The university offers customised facilities to better align work and private life. Parents are entitled to partly paid parental leave and Radboud University employees enjoy flexibility in the way they structure their work. The university highly values the career development of its staff, which is facilitated by a variety of programmes.

What we expect from you
an excellent track record in solid-state NMR spectroscopy, as demonstrated by publications and presentations at international
conferences;excellent teaching skills and an interest in participating in the educational programmes of our faculty, particularly in the curricula of the Educational Institute for Molecular Sciences;the qualities to become a successful research group leader, such as managerial and communication skills and an open attitude;an interest in contributing to the industrial or societal utility of our
research. What we have to offer employment: 0.8 - 1.0 FTE; a maximum gross monthly salary of € 4,978 based on a 38-hour working
week (salary scale 11); in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3%
end-of-year bonus; duration of the contract: 6 years; you will initially be appointed as an Assistant Professor, Level 2
(salary scale 11). If your performance is evaluated positively at the end of your tenure track, you will be offered a permanent position as an Assistant Professor, Level 1 (salary scale 12) in accordance with the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO); depending on qualifications and experience this can be adapted; you will be able to make use of our Dual Career Service where our Dual
Career Officer will assist with family related support, such as child care, and help your partner prepare for the local labour market and with finding an occupation. Are you interested in our excellent employment conditions?
