Abstract
We investigated the mechanisms mediating hepatic metabolic responses to an acute lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge in goats. Guanzhong dairy goats (15) were randomly divided into three groups: control (CTL, saline, 0.2*ml/kg BW), lower dose LPS (LPS-L, 20*?g/kg BW) and higher dose LPS (LPS-H, 40*?g/kg BW). All injections were administered intraperitoneally twice with a 24-h interval. Forty-eight hours after the first injection, blood samples were collected to extract plasma for biochemical analysis, and liver tissues were biopsied and stored in liquid nitrogen for metabonomics analysis. We found that plasma levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase and total bilirubin increased (p*

Applications of NMR in dairy research. Applications of NMR in dairy research. Metabolites. 2014;4(1):131-41 Authors: Maher AD, Rochfort SJ Abstract NMR is a robust analytical technique that has been employed to investigate the properties of many substances of agricultural relevance. NMR was first used to investigate the properties of milk in the 1950s and has since been employed in a wide range of studies; including properties analysis of specific milk proteins to metabolomics techniques used to monitor the health of dairy cows....

Multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Acute Experimental Brain Ischaemia
Multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Acute Experimental Brain Ischaemia Publication date: Available online 23 May 2014 Source:Progress in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy
Author(s): Risto A. Kauppinen
Ischaemia is a condition in which blood flow either drops to zero or proceeds at severely decreased levels that cannot supply sufficient oxidizable substrates to maintain energy metabolism in vivo. Brain, a highly oxidative organ, is particularly susceptible to ischaemia. Ischaemia leads to loss of consciousness in seconds and, if prolonged,...
