Default PhD at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC), Strasbourg, France

Hi. I thought you might be interested in this PhD position advertised on the ICMRBS website.

Quote:
PhD at IGBMC, Strasbourg, France
NMR Study of Bio Polymers and Intrinsically Unstructured Proteins.

It is now considered that nearly 30% of the proteins present in the eukaryotic genom are fully or partially unstructured. New evidence are found everyday that this unstructured state is important for protein-protein recognition or ligand binding and fundamental for the biological activity of the considered proteins. The unstructured proteins are also deeply involved in amylosis pathologies such as Prion or Alzheimer diseases, but also transthyretin and chronic inflammatory diseases.

Yet, this state of the biological matter, has not been intensively studied nor described. The physics of unstructured protein chains shares many similarities with that of soluble polymers. On this ground, many techniques and results known for polymers are to be adapted and extended. NMR is a tool of choice for such soluble objects, and will be intensively used to study the dynamics and the partial structuration of these objects. Other biophysical techniques will also be considered. Salivary proteins and histones will be investigated as model systems as well as short model peptides.

You are a chemist or a biochemist and have a background in physical chemistry, you are Interested in biophysics and in molecular modeling, knowledge in polymer physics is a plus for you. You want to take part a of this new exciting research starting in IGBMC and in the NMRtec company. You will get access to a rather broad range of skills in biophysics, protein and polymer chemistry, you will have contacts with many actors in the field. You will be employed for 3 years by the NMRtec company, the annual salary before tax is 23.484€ + advantages.

For additional information, contact

EU-funded PhD opportunity, Strasbourg, France NMRTEC is opening a position for a doctoral thesis in the field of analytical chemistry dedicated to complex system and combinatorial chemistry. In a part of the ITN READ European network, it is intended to conduct an extensive study on the development of analytical methods for the analysis of complex mixtures. This will include the study of large chemical libraries, auto-assembling systems, complex protein ligand interactions, and the study of polymers and disordered biological systems. Methods developed will include mostly NMR (1D, 2D, and...

Postdoc in the Laboratory of Molecular Tumor Genetics
Postdoc in the Laboratory of Molecular Tumor Genetics I am looking for a PhD degree holder with a passion for science, in particular tumor cell biology, for an NMRC-funded project that will discover novel tumor suppressors in the p53 pathway. We will use cutting-edge shRNA technology and functional assays to learn more about the way this important tumor suppressor works. If you have the ambition to work on a highly interesting but also competitive project, and have demonstrable experience with tissue culture and molecular biology and affinity fo… More...
