NMR Spectroscopist - Chemical and Catalyst Sciences

DUTIES: This Sr. Scientist I will lead and conduct nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy research focused on understanding processes related to the development of renewable energy. Position will be primarily focused on conducting research related to chemical and biological biomass conversion. However, developing collaborations with NREL researchers in other areas will be encouraged. Communicate NREL' s objectives and results to the relevant stakeholders, including DOE, other government laboratories, industry and academia. Write scientific papers and present NREL's work at national/international meetings to highlight and enhance NREL' s research program. Identify, develop and pursue external funding sources and partnerships with other government laboratories, industry and academia. Manage Magnetic Resonance Facility consisting of Bruker Avance 200MHz solids, Varian 400 MHz liquids and Bruker ELEXSYS EPR spectrometers. Oversee installation of new Bruker 600Mhz spectrometer. Expand current NREL facilities, staff and activities related to NMR spectroscopy. Conduct all research activities in a safe manner following NREL ESH&Q procedures.

REQUIRED:
Ph.D. in Chemistry or other relevant technical discipline or equivalent relevant experience. Minimum of 5 years of relevant scientific and technical experience. Demonstrated technical knowledge of NMR spectroscopy. Outstanding interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. Previous responsibility leading R&D activities and developing novel solutions using NMR spectroscopy.

PREFERRED:
Demonstration of progressive responsibilities in a technical environment. Considered a creative and innovative leader with exceptional scientific credentials. Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams and form effective working relationships with scientist and engineers. Experience related to cryoprobes, structural determinations (solid or liquids applications), and/or biopolymers characterization.
