Staph fights copper: NMR and resistance

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has been used to reveal the three-dimensional structure of the copL protein in the Bacillus subtilis bacterium, a close relative of Staphylococcus aureus. The approach reveals copper ions can bind to the surface of the protein and points to how resistance to this antibacterial agent can arise.
